Donald Trump Wants A 100% Tariff On Movies From "Foreign Lands"

Donald Trump says that the movie industry in America “is DYING”.

Posting on his social network, Truth Social, the 47th President of the United States said that “Other Countries [sic] are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States.” While it is true that countries do offer tax incentives for studios and productions to shoot in their locations, this is more of a symbiotic relationship as the USA doesn’t contain all the possible geographies necessary for different types of movie.

But, when have facts ever got in the way of a post on Truth Social? Trump opined the reason wasn’t practicality but, rather, a “concerted effort by other Nations [sic] and, therefore, a National Security threat.” Okay.

On that basis, he authorized the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative to “immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff [sic] on any and all Movies [sic] coming into our Country [sic] that are produced in Foreign Lands [sic].”

This comes in the midst of an ongoing trade war that Trump is having with the rest of the world, implementing extortionate tariffs on foreign goods in a bid to have “Made in the USA” across every single product that American consumers buy. It appears that the president hasn’t been told that exporters don’t pay import tariffs, it’s on the importer to pay them.

Nobody knows how such a tariff would even begin to be implemented but, if there’s one thing that Hollywood is always transparent about, it’s how movies are financed, so this will be a fun thing to see through.
